Suomen Mentorit ry has launched in 2025 a new nationwide initiative called Future in Finland, aimed at strengthening the employment opportunities and retention of international higher education students in Finland. The project responds to the current concerns about talent shortages and recruitment challenges that are slowing down business growth and development across various sectors.

Mentoring by Future in Finland

The initiative offers international students the opportunity to participate in one-on-one mentoring, build professional networks, and establish closer connections with Finnish working life. A total of 30 mentoring pairs will engage in discussions throughout the autumn 2025 on various work-life themes and attend events where current insights and experiences from the mentoring process are shared.

The mentoring programme will run from September until December 2025 and during these months the mentoring pairs shall meet at least four times. Besides the one-to-one meetings, the programme has three complementary events:

  • 15th of September: Kick-Off event of the programme (Teams)
  • 29th of October: an in-person midterm event (live, Helsinki)
  • 17th of December: the official closure of the programme (Teams)

A joint project of Finnish organisations

We are glad to announce that this is a joint collaboration between The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri), YTK, Technology Industries of Finland, and Boardman Advisors.

Materials to support the programme
